Pune Old City Heritage Walk
The history of the Tambat community in Pune dates back over 300 years. It was during the Maratha period that these coppersmiths, originally from the Konkan region, migrated to the city and established their workshops here.
On this walk, we explore the workshop-cum-homes of the coppersmiths in Kasba Peth, popularly known as Tambat Ali. Witness the everyday lives of these artisans as they skillfully create a variety of objects from copper and brass using traditional techniques passed down through generations. As we delve into the rich history of this craft, preserved for over four centuries, we learn how these craftsmen and their future generations continue to work with pride and dedication to sustain their legacy while also embracing new ideas and technologies to preserve their heritage.
During this walk, you will also have the opportunity to purchase handcrafted products directly from the artisans, thereby contributing to the preservation and continuation of this rich heritage.
The walk includes a fully guided walk with an English-speaking guide, entrance charges (wherever applicable) and some snacks & refreshments enroute.
